Iron mines start with an initial bonus of iron from 1000 to 8000 (more on Beginner Planet ) typically. These deplete quickly once encountered but will continue to yield iron at a rate throughout the day at a slow but steady rate of 215 per hour.
Several depleted mines being routed to a CC will easily fill up the typical 5000 limit in a day - making extra storage the only efficient way forward.
A Command Centre ( CC ) placed near an iron mine iwll fill up to 5000 quickly - providing more backup while offline. trade routes then can be routed from the CC to the nearby base CC.
